I am Robert and have been very keen to try to make contact with my mother's relations who could help me trace her Grandfather, my greatgrandfather Nechmann or Nachman.

He was a Polish Jew who came to live in Liverpool during the early 1900's to escape the pograms in Poland. He never naturalised as a British citizen so was interred on the Isle of Man for the duration of WW1 as an 'alien'.

This broke him and the authorities never allowed him to return to Liverpol. They deported him to Germany where he was last seen alive in 1938/9 by my grandmother.

He lived with his brother in Berlin and none of them survived the war. Where they were gassed and burned I want to know, but my odyssey is made difficult because my mum was too secretive and died without telling me or writing down any detail about her history.

Can you help or point me in the right direction to organisations who can help me find out about my great grandfather Edourd Nechman or Nachmann?

If so, please email me at robert@bruce.org.uk
