My father, Arthur Brown, was in the R.A.F. Regiment during the war, and was at Imphal during the Siege of Kohima & Imphal. I watched your programme 25/10/05 Peoples War and was so disappointed when nothing about the siege was shown and hardly mentioned. I quote Lord Mountbattan "The Battle of Kohima will probably go down as one of the greatest battles in history. It was in effect, The battle of Burma". My father was in his thirtys when the second world war started. He disappeared one day without a word to my mother, jumped on a train; and sent a message from Tintagel to say he'd joined up. He probably thought that my mother would have begged him not to volunteer. Thankfully he survived. I remember going to meet him at the station with my mother and saw this very brown, thin, smiling face, amidst a very packed railway carriage of soldiers all returning home. My dad never talked about the war afterwards, I believe now that it took him many years to recover, if ever.
