I am the daughter of P/O Len Barnes, skipper of ND530 (630 sqdn). He was shot down over Rheims(15/03/1944) and evaded capture via the Comete Line, being in the last group of 5 to cross the Pyrenees. Almost handed back to the enemy for a sack of corn for each airman!! He became a founder member of the RAF Escaping society and I was brought up knowing his story . Our daughter is named after one of his "helpers"
It is important that his and other stories are not forgotten. The full story can be found on the following link www.630squadron.co.uk This site has been set up by the son of my fathers bombaimer(Sgt Malcolm Gregg) who I found completely by chance whilst carrying out my own research. It is a fitting tribute to all 'our boys'who gave so much that we might be free.
