My Grandfather wrote an account of his service in the Royal Marines many years ago. I have to confess that at the time I wasn't very interested and promptly forgot all about it. Recently my grandfather and I have begun writing to each other and as I expressed an interest in hearing about his service days he sent me the account he'd written ten years ago. I asked him if I could reproduce his story on this website and he was happy for me to do so. I think it's a very interesting story and well told. It's a real nail biter in places, as I read it I had to remind myself that I knew how the story turned out, that I knew he survived.

My grandfather's story takes us from his hometown and childhood, through enlistment and training and ends on D-Day. I hope that someday he'll write about the rest of his time with the Marines and also about how he adjusted to civilian life.

I hope you enjoy his story as much as I have.

Danielle
