I was an impressionable young boy during the war & my home town of Alfreton was a garrison town so being surrounded by the military I suppose started my interest in the history of WW2. After the war I joined the army cadets & this kept my interest alive, when I was eighteen (1951) I was conscripted for national service I trained with the RAC at Catterick then joined "C" Squadron 7th Royal Tank Regiment, who were Korean veterans,I served with them in the New Territories, Hong Kong. It was 1952, only seven years after the end of the war so most of the old regulars & senior NCO's were WW2 veterans , this again encouraged my interest plus the fact that stories where still rife about the Japanese occupation of that area. On my demob' I served my reserve in the Derbyshire Yeomanry Territorials. I spent my working life as a HGV driver, with the Explosives & Chemical Co,bus driving with the Trent Motor Traction Co & thirty three years with what was at first the Butterley Co, then the Butterley Brick Co, & then the Hanson Brick Co, till my retirement in 1998,I like cooking, gardening, & holidays abroad.
Married twice ,two grown up children.
