In the Summer of 1940, My sister and I were evacuated to Newton Abbot in Devon, not a happy experience.
One day (the 29th August, I believe) the sirens sounded and some aeroplanes appeared over the Station and started dropping bombs. My sister who was six at the time, said, ooh look, they're laying eggs!
My father was less than impressed, and shortly after this event he came and took us home to Northfleet in Kent. His attitude was that if we were going to be bombed, it may as well be at home. I was very pleased, we watched the Battle of Britain from our back garden!
