For the last eight years I have been researching my father's WW2 experience, in the 195 Air Landing Ambulance (RAMC) in Normandy and as a nurse on ambulance trains in India in 1944/5, tending ex POWs and refugees. His name was George Crockford. Before his RAMC experience he joined the AFS in South London, and fought fires during the Blitz. He never spoke of his war experiences, except the happy moments. Subsequently I have discovered what a hero he was, working in hellish conditions in Normandy and India, and in ghastly circumstances in the Blitz. This web-site has helped me to understand what an experience he encountered, as did so very many who have added their stories to the web-site.

I am so grateful to those who have contributed to this wonderful venture.

Malcolm Crockford
