I came into possession of my Father's Dittybox (small box in which a sailor keeps various personal articles), acquired when he served in the Royal Navy during the First World War.
He was a good and caring father, but I did not know anything about his early years, and thought this was very sad.
I decided to write about my growing up for my children to read, and my 'Wartime Memories' are taken from it.
