No doubt many people of my age group who lived in the London area during the war had similar experiences to mine. However, in 1944 I had the perhaps more unusual opportunity of living in a stately home in Oxfordshire which was a complete revelation to a nine years old boy. We remained in contact with the owner after the war and I have spent almost a life-time wondering how to repay the kindness afforded to me and my family by her. By way of tribute I have written a children's archaeologically based fantasy story about my experiences at that time which I hope the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ may consider suitable for a television production.
