I remember the boy next door was Ronny Harries (and his sister). I did see him some years later - he was a University student. In those days you usually could not go to university unless your family had money. I had to start work in a fourmill at age just 14, as my parents were poor and my school, Canton High, had been gutted, so there were no lessons - just salvage work. My pay at the end of a 6-day week, 8am to 6 pm, was a ten shilling note.
