Hi. My name is Vicki,I'm 38 years old and have 3 children.

For a long time now I've had a fascination for anything to do with the Second World War. After reading a lot of books and watching a lot of documentaries I also found myself becoming equally,if not more interested in the First World War.

I am particularly interested in the more 'human' side of war. While I find most aspects of both these conflicts compelling, it is the personal stories of how people coped and dealt with the suffering and deprivations of the times that affect me most. I find myself so moved when I read or hear how mothers, fathers, children and wives had to find a way of dealing with their fear when their loved ones were away at war,and then how they felt when their worst fears were realised.

I've read many books and the two which have had the most effect on me are Band of Brothers and Letters from a Lost Generation.

Reading of the courage and selflessness of the young men and women in these true stories is one of the best antidotes to the the way I see society ,with a few rare exceptions, today!

It's so important for those who witnessed and took part in the two world wars, how ever small a part they played,to share their experiences so generations to come never forget.

I look forward to reading everybody's contributions........

Thankyou, Vicki
