I suppose I became fascinated by WW2 because of the stories my parents used to relate to me in the 1950's when I was growing up. My mother lived next to Hornchurch aerodrome with my grandparents having been widowed in 1940 [not due to the war] My father was 32 when the war broke out and was a carpenter and went on to work on french fishing boats converted to house agents.
He also worked in Sheerness. The war was a hard time for them both but a catalyst to both of them as everything changed.
I have posted one article about my mother called a quiet house close to fields and intend to add others.
I am interested in the effect of this momentus series of events on the normal person and how they coped or failed to cope. I also want to know the effects on our traditions and customs. Did these thrive or wilt and why
