My name is George Larbey I was born in a little village in West Sussex called Fernhurst on the 15th August 1932 so this made me 7 years old when war broke out.
My father was in a reserved occupation during the 39-45 war as he worked on the farm but he did his bit in the tanks in the first world war.
I did almost all of my schooling at Fernhurst, some of which was in the air raid shelter. I left school before my 14th birthday. I have had 6 jobs in my life, ranging from Garage Machanic to Head Forester. I had 3+years in the Royal Engineers and spent more that 2 of those years in the far & middle east. I retired in 1997 from a job I had for 34 years, and am enjoying my retirement in a councill bungalow in Bishops Waltham Hampshire.
