My name is Terence Walter Ashby. I was 4 years old at the start of the war. I was born in New End hospital, Hampstead, London. I attended Childs Hill school, Cricklewood till 1949. My father was Walter, and my mother was Mabel. Dad was a fireman in the London fire Brigade. My brother Fred was in the Royal Navy. Joyce was the only girl in the family, then came me, and then David, then Alec, and the youngest was Norman.
