I was a schoolboy in South London for most of the War. My family were briefly evacuated to Bedford on 2nd September 1939 but returned after a couple of weeks to London, to live in Wimbledon, as nothing seemed to be happening. Later, during 1944 and at the height of the V1 campaign, we were evacuated to Nottingham, from where we went on to our grandafther's home in County Tyrone, where we spent the summer.
We returned for four more years at school; then on to College and national Service in the Royal Artillery.
I am placing on record extracts from the accounts that I and many fellow students wrote for a recent book on our time at school in wartime. We were at Wimbledon College, a Catholic school run by the Jesuit order of priests.
