From my wartime RAF experiences as a pilot, due to perhaps being in the right place at the right time, I was able to continue as a pilot in the civil aviation world.
Unlike the other services life was very transitory and one was constantly on the move. After a tour of operations came a posting to other fields such as training or an administrative post, and then back to operations again. The result of this was to have a lot of acquaintances and hopefully somewhere it will spark a moment of recollection and a distant memory will be rekindled.
Of course we are in our eighties now, so perhaps its unlikely
