I was born at Southport,Lancashire on Christmas Eve 1928 which makes me 75 this (2003) Christmas.

In about `39 we moved to Manchester and were there during the war living on Oldham Rd, Newton Heath on the border of Failsworth.

I was called up for National Service in Feb `47 and served in The 16th/5th Queens Royal Lancers in Catterick / Germany /Egypt. Demobbed in `49 I could`nt settle down in `civvie st` so in `53 I signed on in the RASC and did 24 years visiting Cyprus / Singapore / Germany / with exersises in Malaya / Greece / Libya etc coming out in `79. Got a job on Airport security at Teesside Airport and now am retired and Secretary of the local RASC / RCT Association so still `Army Barmy!`.

Out of the 24 years I did 13 of them in RASC / RCT Air Despatch, the best unit ever and the best job too.

I attend every Air Despatch Reunion each year and meet old friends with many happy memories.
