The contributions by WH Greenwood are 3 of the many poems written by my father whilst serving in the 2nd Division of His Majesty's Army (RASC) as a heavy goods driver mainly driving in convoy (water trucks I think) He was stationed in the Lake District at Ullswater before going to Burma where he first met my mother who was a midwife and district nurse and lived at Glenridding - they married in 1941.

He was given a small red notebook which he kept throughout the war and wrote over 30 poems of his experiences as a soldier both in Dunkirk and in India/Burma. Several of the poems were written as love poems to my Mother as well as for other soldiers.

As both my parents are now dead I inherited his book of poems and have contributed a few of them in honour of his memory and in respect of his brave and gallant experiences. I particularly appreciate his ability to expereince the horror of war but also to be able to be in touch with and express his emotions and sentiments through writing the poems - He is a hero to me.

He made a few lifelong friends whilst in Burma - does anyone remember Bill Greenwood?
