Born in Seaforth, Liverpool, I was only five when war was declared and by then me and my family were living in Litherland. My two older brothers joined the forces as soon as they could and my sister and I were evacuated to Rhayader in Mid Wales in late 1940.

After the war I returned to Liverpool until 1950 when my father moved to Watford with the civil service. From Watford I joined The Royal Air Force and after demobilisation joined the Building Society industry. Here I stayed until retirement in 1993, after which I moved initially to Florida to live and then to Rio de Janeiro in Brasil.

A lifelong supporter of Liverpool FC I played soccer, cricket, table tennis and badminton as a young man. I have a great love of orchestral music and opera. For many years I was active in the service organisations, Round Table, Junior Chamber of Commerce and Rotary. I served on the Council of The Chartered Building Societies Institute and for nine years was President of The International Spiritualist Federation.
