I grew up in the Sussex Weald and I remember my parents listening to the boxing in the mid-sixties, my early teenage years. The tv was in an alcove next to the fireplace, the radio in the other alcove. I have never seen them move so fast as they did that night to pull out the plugs when lightning struck 400metres from the house and the static surge made the tv and radio emit a massive bang, the air turned blue (which wasn't my dad swearing) and nobody found out whether Henry Cooper won. I didn't care, I've never liked boxing anyway.
