Half term fun in BlackpoolThe kids WILL be acting up this half term - if they're off to one of the Grand Theatre's theatrical workshops! This October half term, the Grand Theatre Academy at the Grand Theatre, Blackpool is again offering young people the opportunity to work with some of the country’s leading theatrical artists. Following on from the success of the summer workshops, a limited number of places are available for the Academy October Workshops, which will take place in the Lawrence House Studio at the Grand from Monday 22nd to Wednesday 24th October 2007. The Academy October Workshops give young people aged 13-19 years old the opportunity to work with theatrical artistes from a range of art-forms and nationally and internationally renowned companies. So what's on when?Monday 22nd October - 1pm to 4pm (15 to 19 year olds) Kevin will be delivering a full day on approaches to tackling the work of acclaimed German playwright Bertolt Brecht. Kevin is one of a number of talented young directors in the North West and has been instrumental in reviving the fortunes of one of the regions most successful and notorious producing theatres. Cost £6 Tuesday 23rd October - 10am to 4pm (13 years +) Following on from a writer workshop in the summer, playwright Lavinia Murray is back to continue the development of writing skills. During this intensive course with Lavinia – one of the North West’s most prolific playwrights - students will learn how to tell a story that is theatrical and produce-able as well as such playwriting craft elements as structure, plot, dialogue, setting, theme, scene development and format. Cost £6 Wednesday 24th October 10am to 4pm (15 to 19 year olds) A Theatre Design Workshop with Allison who has designed for the Theatre’s Academy. She is an accomplished designer who has worked with numerous theatre and opera companies and is presenting the challenge to a group of young people to come up with set designs for a production, in only one day,. This includes the making of a box model of the set. Allison will take participants through the whole process, working from the brief, right up to the final presentation of the model.
