Evelyn
is primarily a painter working with acrylics, ink and dye, (there
is an attraction to the unpredictability of using water). She is
also increasingly becoming more interested in the possibilities
of using photography, sound and video.
While
studying Fine Art at Leeds Met University she was invited to spend
her second year on an exchange in The University of Barcelona. There
Evelyn was undoubtedly influenced by the strong colours, architecture,
music and vibrant art scene there.
Ever
since, she visits Spain and always manages to be more productive
in the sunny weather and slow tempo of life.
She
is especially keen on the work of Antoni Tapies, Frida Kahlo, Goya
and Miro.
Travelling
has always been a great source for development. Her most recent
series of paintings stem from a trip to Prague. She still has to
visit her parent's countries Cyprus and Guyana and is making plans
to go there soon.
She
is currently researching the connections between the mark making,
folklore and symbolism of Greek and Hindu mythology.
As
well as the dynamic urban environment of the city she enjoys the
Yorkshire countryside, and it is from nature that inspires her most.
Past
exhibitions have been in Villa de Arte, and Galleria del Nu Born,
Barcelona, Borders, The Leeds Innovation in Design Centre, and Vinyl
Bar Gallery, London.
