Susie
Barrett has just had three pieces accepted for the Twisted Nerve
exhibition which runs from Monday 29 March - Sunday 6 June at Henshaws
Arts and Crafts Centre in Knaresborough.
She
says: "The three pieces are a result of an ambition to incorporate
fibre optics into my textile works. It took me about 18 months to
research the materials and find a supplier sympathetic to artists
doing one-off pieces.
"I
have often used sisal in my work and love the way it performs in
quite a sculptural manner. The fibre optics combine well with the
sisal and I am able to produce work that can stand in it's own right
during the day and at night can light up to produce a different
mood."
Susie
is currently learning video skills at Cleveland College of Art and
Design. She was chosen to take part in AA2A course – Artists
Access to Art Colleges - which is sponsored by the Arts Council
to enable artists to learn new skills.
"There
I am working on an environmental video that looks at the accumulation
of plastic into the environment. Quite a contrast but equally exciting."
