Hyde
Park Unity Day was initiated by the Hyde Park Residents Association
with the mission to :
*
create a relaxed friendly and safe environment.
* unite the community and provide an opportunity to highlight
the positive aspects of living, working, and studying in Hyde
Park.
* demonstrate communities strength through voluntary involvement.
* celebrate cultural diversity through art , music and performance.
* create a focus point for community activities.
* unite and provide opportunities to showcase skills, talent
and nature of local people and artists.
Hyde
Park Unity day 2003 has been a full year in the planning and
fundraising. There have been bucket runs down Otley Road pubs,
gig nights , car boot sales and a sponsored walk.
This
year there will be a CD compilation of bands and DJs playing
on the day.

The
annual community festival Unity Day event features much more than
just live music and is always a fun family day out. Here are just
a selection of things on offer for this year:
The
Primrose tent (noon till midnight) Showcasing live music from
Liquidhead,
Just
like Moses, Grass
Hopper, Melody
Maker, Cardboard
Cowboy, Under the Covers, Yellow
Stripe Nine, Tunji,
Rockadile, New
Minds Eye, The Electric Co, 10,000
Things and Mick
Artistic.
Unity
skateboarding competition
(11am till 6pm)
Celebrating the all-new skate park at Woodhouse Moor there will
be a 16 years and under competition followed by an over 16's competition.
Graffitti
jam (noon till 6)
The theme this year is Opposites Interact and the colour scheme
is greens, reds, oranges, yellows and purples. A dedicated area
next to the skate park, will be allocated for artists to teach the
skills of graffitti. From 12-6 rhe rest of the area will be open
to invited graffitti artists, a mix of locals and nationwide artists
to showcase their skills.
Global
Rhythms (6 till midnight)
Presenting world, jazz and acoustic music from the likes of Sawa
Teen, Honeydrum, Anetolio, Kosala, The Grand Wazoo, Feluka and Jon
Gomm.
Theatre
Tent (6 till midnight)
Performances, plays, comedy, tricks, stunts, and illusions throughout
the evening from
Dino Casino and the International Playboys of Rhythm, A Play in
a Day performance workshop and more.

Plus
don't forget there will be more live events happening throughout
the day. Events such as a live dog show, face painting, Bingo, Morris
dancing, breakdancing battles, soundsytems, DJs, a football competition,
kids fun, arts and crafts and much more.
Please
note:
No vehicles will be allowed on to Hyde Park.
No barbecues will be allowed due to fire risk. If you volunteer
to be a steward you get fed for free.
Vounteers are still required for other jobs, just turn up on Friday
or Saturday morning and seek out the people madly rushing around
or turn up on Sunday with a binbag and help tidy up.
