A glory
leg over the French border and into Monaco. The ride was a relatively
flat 55 miles which included some long and dangerous tunnels.
In
Monaco they are setting up the town for next weeks Grand Prix a
consequence of which was that the TV crew made several circuits
of the town trying to find the hotel entrance.
For
the last seven days we have been receiving a lot of e-mails via
the appeal from British people living on the French Riviera wishing
Jane well and offering to help. It still has come as a big surprise
that people have come up to Jane in the street and restaurant wishing
her well.
The
psychology of the ride is difficult to judge but I remember from
last year at this stage that tensions build up. It's only natural
that when energy levels are low and the body is tired that things
that wouldn't matter you can become irrational about. I think therefore
it's a relief to one and all that I'm at home.
It's
also easy to forget why Jane is there. Although each broadcast is
trailed "cancer sufferer" or "terminally ill mother"
everyone seems to forget that Jane is poorly.
We
all see someone who has cycled 600 miles in ten day but it doesn't
seem to register that she's actually really very ill on the road.
I doubt that there's another person in the world who could do what
Jane is doing but don't forget why she's doing it...
