Two
hours and ten minutes from Sault to the top of Mont Ventoux - it
was without a doubt an awesome climb and the pinnacle of not just
this ride but Jane's achievements over the last two years.
A trickle
of cyclists were riding a constant flow of people making their way
to the summit but Jane and Luke were the only tandem and easily
spotted throughout the journey.
Ventoux
is baren and desolate with rocks bleached from the years of sun
exposure. The landscape is remeniscint of pictures taken from the
moon. The last five kilometers of the climb is done without shade
and tests every cyclist.
It
was a relief to see Jane reach the summit. The exertion was etched
across their faces. At the top there were a number of British people
who had made the journey to see them complete the climb.
The
route was due to finish in Nyons but a nice surprise awaited Jane
as the hotel was a further ten miles down the ride and 300 metres
higher. On another occasion this might have upset her greatly but
as the buzz of topday's achievement was still palpable she dismissed
the inconvenience with a nod of the head.
