Back
on the bike again and a bonus because of the hotel mix up on Monday
15 miles of today's rout had already been cycled which left a paltry
45 mile.
It
was, however, a hard day due to a couple of difficult climbs with
heat climbing to the mid 30s. It was 34 degrees at 5pm. Luke especially
finds the hot weather uncomfortable with hydration a major problem.
The
rest was welcome although Jane and Luke were glad to get started
again.
I have
got a few facts of the journey to share. Distance covered so far
855 miles, top speed 47.5 mph (yes that's miles per hour, it's not
a mistake) total inclines 57000 feet, highest altitude 6215 feet.
Average speed 12mph.
The
top speed was achieved going down Mont Ventoux. Both cyclists are
feeling a little flat at present with the next seven days likely
to test their resolve.
Jane's
a little disappointed with Chabeuil and we won't be including it
in any holiday itinerary's. Maybe it's because they've been spoilt
with the beautiful French and Italian times or alternatively it
could just be a dump.
Tomorrow
is a long 75 miles to Lyon which will test their stamina in climbing
temperatures as well as their navigation skills as it's a pig to
drive round. It should be a testing day but the occasion is significant
because it will mark half way.
See
the full diary and bike route.
