Jane's
latest challenge is to cycle from Rome to Leeds, a 2,500 miles journey.
Husband Mike writes a daily diary of the trip. Day 23 - Montargis
to Paris.
The PA
reporter who saw Jane finish at the end of today's 77 mile leg said
that Jane was unable to walk after she dismounted the bike. She is
extremely weary and her powers of concentration dimmed. She appears
to be suffering from chronic exhaustion and pain. We at home are concerned.
Jane
underplays the physical problems so as a result it's difficult to
gauge how concerned we should be. Fiercely determined to complete
the ride she is still thinking of adding an extra 60 mile to the
journey this weekend.
It
was a two and half hour journey through Paris which caused the most
problems today. As she reached the Place de Concorde there was a
need to pose for the press and an almost immediate trip to the Eiffel
Tower for a TV interview. These little jobs add hours to the day
whilst adding to Jane's exhaustion.
Tomorrow
she is in Paris for the day with a small ride around and a number
of press engagements. In the evening is the reception in the Embassy.
Both Jane and Luke have regaled me at length tonight about how wonderful
the Embassy is, both the buildings and staff, that I'm miffed to
be stuck at home. I can console myself that at least I can walk...
