At
the start of the ride we were going to say that if a journalist
wanted to cover it they would need to cycle a stage.
This
rule was immediately broken and never stuck to. However a couple
of intrepid reporters have joined the ride, Maggie Stratton of the
YP made a memorable effort to climb Mont Ventoux and today Jane
and Luke were joined by a reporter from the Independent. I have
to admire their willingness to enter into the spirit if the ride.
Today
was an easy stretch only 45 miles from Hayes in London to Oxford.
The countryside has been beautiful and an early finish of 2pm was
achieved.
Jane
though didn't get any rest as she had a series of media interviews
this afternoon. Interest has picked up dramatically this week and
as a result the fund raising has risen quickly to £136,000.
I can't
quite believe how successful the whole ride has been. When you plan
an event you worry for months as to what will happen and like this
sometimes it can take time to get a momentum.
My
final worry is the finish and whether anyone will care. I console
myself that at the end of the day it doesn't matter as our families
will be there for Jane and Luke. That said it would be fantastic
to make it an occasion.
