For Carmel Hill, that happened in 1981. She never forgot the man she'd seen in the pub on a night out with friends. Their lives moved in different directions but it all ended happily... It all started with a dangling thread, says Leicester's Carmel Hill. "I went out with some girlfriends to a pub. I walked in and saw this guy standing at the bar and he had a thread hanging down from the pocket of his jeans.
"I've got a real bugbear about threads hanging down from anything so I went up and pulled the thread. "He turned round and said, 'What are you doing?' He had such striking blue eyes and I thought to myself, 'He is gorgeous!' He was so nice with it. "We swapped numbers and the rest is history." Help playing audio/video It wasn't just Lee's eyes that Carmel fell for. "He had lovely shoulder-length hair at the time...It was that first sight of his face. I'll always remember the expression I first saw on his face... We have always had a chemistry together." But soon things began to get very complicated. Carmel says, "I had a dilemma. I didn't know it when I first met Lee but I was pregnant by my previous partner. "When I found out for sure I was pregnant I thought I couldn't go on with the relationship without telling him so I told him. "He'd just broken up from a marriage and there were kids involved. So we split up and I was devastated. But I made the decision. I thought it was only fair I didn't put him in a difficult position." ![]() And it all ended happily ever after.... Separate WaysAnd so Lee and Carmel went their separate ways. Each got married but they would occasionally see each other, sometimes after years. But when they did meet there was always a spark between them. But Carmel convinced herself that because Lee was married that was 'it' so far as a future together was concerned.Ìý Finally, Lee's marriage foundered and Carmel's went through a bad patch. Lee found out and paid her an unexpected visit. She was astonished but told him she didn't want to be the "other woman". InseparableShe wanted a future together. Lee for his part, said he had always loved her. The couple tied the knot in January having been together for sometime. Lee says, "We are inseparable. I can't stand being five minutes away from her. We are always ringing and texting each other." Lee also retains vivid memories of their first meeting. "I remember her pulling the thread off and I thought what lovely curly hair she had."
