Wayne Rooney's fiancee Coleen McLoughlin is never far from the media spotlight. Recent rumours suggest that Girls Aloud and the Sugababes will be performing at her 21st birthday bash. Meanwhile Coleen has published her first book 'Welcome to My World' which includes insights into her transformation from an ordinary Liverpudlian schoolgirl into a glamorous style icon. Speaking to ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radio Merseyside's Billy Butler, Coleen explained why she wrote the book. ![]() Wayne Rooney and Coleen McLoughlin What did you say when you were first asked to write the book?“I said I don’t really want to write an autobiography because I haven’t got that much to say. So I thought I’ll answer the questions that everyone asks me when they first meet me and it’s ‘What’s it like going from school girl photograph to where I am now?’ “So my book is about the last four years and I’ve thrown in some beauty tips, fashion tips. It’s like a really girly compact book, there are loads of photographs.†The tabloids always report on you shopping.“I love going shopping. I love that I still do it myself. “I haven’t got all stylists or anything like that. I love to go to town with my mates of a Saturday or whatever and shop. “But I prefer to go on my own if I need something, and have a good day shopping. But I can get fed up at the end of the day.†You say that friends are very important to you?“Friends and family mean everything to me. My friends are just the friends that I’ve always had. And as well things don’t come as a surprise to them because they’ve grown up with me along the way.

I said ‘You don’t skip the line because there’ll be other people waiting’, and so they said ‘We’ll just come and we’ll just wave.’ ![]() Coleen McLoughlin at Aintree “They’re lovely girls and I love going out in Liverpool with them, and it’s just normal, we’ll just have a laugh. Sometimes when people get famous their friends get jealous.“I’m pretty lucky because none of my friends have done that. My friends that I’ve got I’ve stuck with throughout and are still my friends today. “There probably have been a couple of them down the line but they’re not the right people to hang around with you. Just wave them off and say goodbye. I don’t want anyone bad hanging around with me.†How big an influence where you on Wayne when he moved to Manchester United?“It was a hard subject because there was a lot going on in the media at that time and to cope with that as well it was pretty hard and it was hard on both families and friends as well because there was a lot of criticism. “There were a lot of angry fans. I can understand that at the end of the day, because he’s a really good player and moving from Everton to Manchester United. But it happens in life you know, you get jobs, you move up in your job. ![]() Coleen with Wayne and Alex Ferguson “I think now it’s all over and done with, there still are angry fans, but they’ve got to get on with it. “My family are Liverpool supporters and Wayne’s family are Everton supporters so there’s a bit of a mixture there. I support Liverpool myself so to go to Manchester United as well was a pretty hard subject for both our families! “But it’s him that counts and whatever is best for him. So he chose to go and he’s had a fantastic time there. You’re always being pursued by the paparazzi.“You just get used to it. There are places where you go and you don’t expect them to be and you just have to get on with it. “I think because Wayne was in the media spotlight first and I got brought in to it, we learnt off each other and we help each other out. “The photographers, sometimes you get annoyed but they were the ones that took that first photograph of me in my school uniform. And that’s where it’s all come from now. So I can’t be nasty to them all the time. “There’s been a lot [in the press] about the birthday party. By the sounds of it I’ve got a bigger line up than Live8 had. I’m just going to have a nice night and celebrate it with all my friends and family.†“Everybody says ‘Where’s your favourite place in the world?’ And I say Liverpool, because I’m a home bird and I’ll never want to go away.†last updated: 18/09/07 SEE ALSOYou are in: Liverpool > Features > Latest Features > Coleen McLoughlin |
