I
was born and bred in Prescott. I was brought up in Victoria
Place, Court Number 1. It doesn’t even exist now.

The
whole of the air raid shelter was covered in flowers. They’d
planted flowers to disguise it. It was full of marigolds.

We
never went without a big fire. It was the focus of the house.

You’d
take the oven shelf out, wrap it up in an old cardigan and
you’d put it in the bed. You had to be careful you didn’t
burn you’re feet on it.
