Finding Neverland
(Directed by Marc Foster, starring Johnny Depp, Kate Winslet, Radha Mitchell, Julie Christie and Dustin Hoffman)

video WATCH the trailer for Finding Neverland: - -

The morning after his latest play flops - on its first night - J M Barrie (Johnny Depp) takes his morning stroll in Kensington Gardens.

There he meets and befriends the recently widowed Mrs Llewelyn Davies (Kate Winslet) and her four young sons.

Their meetings become a regular occurrence with Barrie indulging his fairy tale imagination by transforming the day-to-day into games of cowboys and indians, pirates and castaways, mischief and trickery.

tear-jerker

While gossip-mongers question what appears to be his unhealthy relationship with the boys and their beautiful mother, thus undermining his marriage, he writes Peter Pan.

But a larger tragedy strikes, forcing Barrie to put away his dreams when the onslaught of Mrs Llewelyn Davies' illness quickens.

The sadness of lost childhood, the longing for eternal youth - and its relationship to death - are melancholic harbingers looming over this wonderfully moving tear-jerker of a film.

Johnny Depp and Kate Winslet are in fine form.

Having just watched this film for the first time last night, I have to say I was in total awe! Johnny Depp was excellent as Barrie, his Scot accent was without flaw. The visual effects brought to life a totally realistic version of Neverland. As a child I often wondered how this story came about, and now I know. As Peter says after seeing the play 'Its about our summer together isnt it?'. Then when people say oh are you Peter Pan, peter replies, 'No he is', pointing at Barrie. That in my mind is why he bonded with those children so so much. The story about losing his brother very young would have heightened his imagination so much, that Barrie never did want to grow up!
