Following
the recent release of Hero this is the second of his splendid
and meticulously beautiful romps to reach our shores this year -
and it's a must-see over the Christmas holidays.
In
China in 859 AD, a corrupt government is lodged in battle with several
rebel factions, one of which is the mythical House of Flying Daggers.
Two
local captains, Leo and Jin, attempt to hatch a plan which will
capture their leader. In the process, however, Jin falls for the
bait: a beautiful blind revolutionary leader called Mei (Zhang Ziyi,
pictured above).

In
all honesty, it's difficult to know where to look when watching
The House of Flying Daggers as every frame is filled with
a ravishing, intense beauty.
Couple
this with the fact that the tale twists and turns to form a film
that saturates the mind along with the senses.
It's
an action film, period romp, melodrama, love story, tragedy, a tale
of revenge, and a comedy (of sorts).
Everything
you could desire and more for your Christmas stocking!
OUT
on 26 December
