Kr8z Recordings Label Launch
Blendaholics
There’s little doubt that we like our hip-hop here in Manchester, so the launch of a brand new label filled to the brim with the finest fat flows, heavy beats and soulful songs was always going to get us excited. Add to that the fact the exceptionally talented Blendaholics are their top slot, and we’re just about wetting ourselves in anticipation! When: Friday 21 July Where: The Roadhouse Price: £4 Music For The Beep Generation
Battles
Does it get any better than a supergroup? If you don’t yet know Battles, they’re Warp’s time-signature-smashing quartet, comprising of Ian Williams (Don Cabellero, Storm and Stress), John Stanier (Helmet, Tomahawk), Dave Konopka (Lynx) and Tyondai Braxton (sound manipulator extraordinaire), and they produce what have been called wrecking ball performances. Sounds interesting? Well, you get laptop conceptualist and musical pioneer Fennesz and Japan’s hi-tech multimedia artist Toshio Iwai thrown in for good measure! When: Friday 21 July Where: Academy 2 Price: £12 ElectroRaga
ElectroRaga
Futuresonic is as much about pushing things forward as anything else and nowhere is that more obvious than in the beautiful and unique performances of ElectroRaga, a series of open-air shows that sees Drongomala and the Zeitgeist Orchestra perform improvised pieces based on North Indian Ragas. A guaranteed uplifting experience, without a doubt. When: Saturday 22 July Where: Chorlton Water Park (5am), Castlefield (3pm), Northern Quarter (8.40pm and midnight) Price: Free noWax
noWax
Time was you’d go to a club or a bar, and there’d be a DJ on who you’d have to enjoy or suffer without any say on what was played. With noWax, those days are over. Simply bring along your MP3 player with your favourite tunes loaded on it, take a number and wait your turn. It’ll be a riot with no-one knowing what’s coming next. How exciting is that?! When: Saturday 22 July Where: Vox Pop Price: Free The Futuresonic Lounge
Working For A Nuclear Free City
Every festival needs a centrepoint, a beacon to light the way of the weary and at Futuresonic that is the Lounge. Featuring sets across two nights that are as varied and interesting as the notion of the festival itself, there’s performances by (amongst others) Beats For Beginners, Shmoo, Stazi and Working For A Nuclear Free City, plus the debut of Dipoleman, ex of My Computer. Should be a blast. When: Friday 21 and Saturday 22 July Where: Kro Piccadilly Price: Free |
