Six year old James Scowcroft devised Robo Rucksack, a talking rucksack, which tells him to remember his lunchbox and water bottle and to do his homework, to enter the Meet the Robinsons competition. The rucksack features flashing antenna and five buttons on the top which allow the user to pre-record reminders. ![]() James models his Robo Rucksack Judges selected his idea, which was then made into reality and presented it to him at the Museum of Science and Industry (MOSI), a fact that James was understandably excited about. "It’s brilliant and I’m amazed! It’s just what I imagined when I came up with the idea. "I like it when it talks. It can help me to do my homework and to do everything so my teacher won’t get angry." And the rucksack could well be the start of an inventing career for James, as he’s already got ideas for other devices. "I might carry on doing inventions in the future. I’ve thought of a rucksack that will help you do the cleaning, and I’d like to do a TARDIS which will take me back in time so I can see what my mum looked like in the old days!" You can’t fault him for thinking big, but he might need a hand from the creators of MOSI’s recent Doctor Who exhibition for that last one. last updated: 06/11/07 You are in: Manchester > Science and Nature > Science & Technology > Meet the talking rucksack
