The Ritz - Ally's review

Dancers at the Ritz

Ally Bailey from London went to the Bank Holiday Allnighter at the Ritz Manchester.

Dancers hit the Ritz floor!

"I've been into Northern for about five years and I usually go to the
1
00 Club but I came up for the weekend as I used to be a student here and people had said it was a good night.

Dancers
Dancers fill the floor!

I was a bit disappointed though...things didn't get off to a great start because we had trouble getting in. Some of us had free tickets and a woman standing near the door started saying that the tickets were fake! I don't know about that but she was a bit aggressive!

Once in though it was apparent that just about anyone who was anyone on the scene was there - it was packed!

The dance floor at the Ritz
The Ritz was a packer!

It was hot and there wasn't a lot of room on the dance floor but the music was pretty good, standard oldies and stuff but not bad.

Butch's spot was excellent and a young lad I hadn't heard before Tommy(?) was quite enthusiastic but through the night there were some serious dips and I did get p****d off with some of the DJs playing real rubbish and going on about the Wigan Casino Anniversary which was on somewhere else!

Japanese Northern Fan
Japanese Northern Fan was "having a really good time!"

But generally speaking it wasn't bad and I would go again but I would say that the organisers should speak to their people and their DJs 'cos the woman who gave us hassle was a real horror and people aren't interested in the inhouse arguments between promoters - they just want to dance!

But if you're new to Northern Soul you'll enjoy the Ritz - I'm told that the sheer numbers of people there remind the oldies of how it used to be!"

Here's what some of the other punters thought:

Dave from Manchester :
This is fabulous I usually get here once a year but it's the first time I've done an August Bank Holiday. I'm knackered tho' 'cos I've been at Europride all weekend!

Julia from Ashton-in-Makerfield:
It's fantastic! Really good and the music's brilliant!

Angie and Degs from Buxton :
Some of the DJs are going on a bit about Wigan but who cares this is fantastic and we're having a really great time!

Belinda (their friend) :

It's amazing and I'm so glad I came...I love it!
