Living climate change in Kenya

Our short film shows the extreme lengths communities go to because of climate change – and how people are working hard to adapt

Since 2020, people in Samburu County in northern Kenya have been by extreme drought and flooding. With five consecutive failed rainy seasons leading to the worst drought in 40 years, tens of millions are facing food insecurity across Eastern Africa.

Our research has found that often people understand what they can do to adapt to climate change - but they struggle to afford and implement them.

With support from , ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Media Action in Kenya produced a film exploring how a community in Samburu County is experiencing climate change – and how they would adapt if they could afford and implement solutions.

Paul's story

Paul, a farmer in Samburu County, Kenya, lives with his wife and seven children. In 2020, he lost 14 of 15 cows and all his goats but one to severe drought - leaving his family without food or income, and driving his decision to send his 13-year-old daughter to be married in exchange for a dowry. Now, bitterly regretting his decision, his hopes are pinned on eldest daughter Ng’asunye as she works to finish her secondary education and improve her job prospects.
