Amid disinformation, diminishing free speech, and a polluted information ecosystems, trusted, independent, public service journalism is indispensable. Local media in fragile and low-income contexts are often the first line of defence against falsehoods – and they need support to continue serving their communities.
We return to New York this September to share our progress on our Pursuit of Truth initiative, and to call for partners across government, media, philanthropy and civil society to support our fight to protect the future of truth and ensure a new generation of truth-tellers focused on human rights, development, and democracy.
From the UN SDG Media Zone to the Clinton Global Initiative Annual Meeting, watch this space to find out where we are, and how to connect!
About the Pursuit of Truth
ѿý Media Action is committed to helping journalists everywhere pursue the truth. Through training, partnerships and innovation, we are working to protect the future of truth and strengthen inclusive, democratic societies. This commitment underpins the Pursuit of Truth, our three-year initiative to support trustworthy media in the public interest in some of the world's poorest, more fragile and conflict-affected countries and contexts.
Launched in 2024 at the Clinton Global Initiative, The Pursuit of Truth aims to:
-
provide financial support to frontline media;
-
deliver world-class journalism training, including pathways for young reporters; and
-
share ѿý-pioneered innovations and tools, including responsible use of AI, to build audience trust and newsroom resilience.
In the past year, our work has
-
reached 90m+ people globally
- spanned nearly 30 countries
-
supported 400+ media partners
These efforts change lives and strengthen fairer societies, but there is still much more to do.
We'll launch the full progress report during the Clinton Global Initiative Annual Meeting on 24-25 September 2025.

Our impact areas
-
Building stronger democracies
We strengthen democracy by supporting public interest media content and platforms that enable vulnerable people to participate in democratic processes as active and informed citizens who are better able to understand and address the biggest challenges they and the world are facing. -
A safer, more habitable planet
We contribute to a safer and more habitable planet by providing an information lifeline in humanitarian emergencies, by supporting information flows that help people adapt to climate change, live sustainable lifestyles and protect nature, and by supporting balanced discussion of conflict and division. -
More inclusive societies
By ensuring everyone has access to trustworthy information and fair representation, our work supports the UN SDG commitment to “leave no one behind”. We meaningfully include people who are often marginalised or excluded in society; addressing gender norms and barriers, the rights of people with disabilities and of LGBTQI+ communities, improving access to health, education and work opportunities.
