In a consortium led by Sightsavers, ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Media Action conducted a four-year Inclusive Family Planning (IFPLAN) project funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) to understand the influence of multi-media on improving family planning access for people with and without disabilities in Northern Nigeria.
Women and girls with disabilities in Nigeria face discrimination, stigma and negative attitudes from family, community members and health workers in accessing family planning services and making informed decisions on contraceptives.
Our radio drama, Madubi (Mirror) and accompanying social media content was informed by deep audience research and through working closely with local organisations for disabled people and health experts.
Our research has found that Madubi had a positive influence on knowledge, discussion and behaviour among audiences on the issues raised around family planning and contraceptives. Audiences were inspired to take action by topics they could relate to.
