'Sign of peace' suspended

The practice of shaking of hands during Mass in Londonderry has been suspended following confirmation of the first case of swine flu in Northern Ireland.

The tradition is as a sign of peace and friendship, but the Catholic Bishop of Derry, Dr Seamus Hegarty, took the decision amid concerns raised by parishioners.

Yesterday, it was revealed that a man from Portglenone, who had recently returned from Mexico, has contracted the virus.

Our North-West reporter, Keiron Tourish, spoke to people attending Mass at St Eugene's Cathedral.
