Norwich City Football Club was formed in 1902. Playing in blue and white, they finished their first ever season in third position in the Norfolk and Suffolk league.

More recently the Canaries - so-called because of their green and yellow strip - narrowly missed out on a place in the Premiership in the 2002 play-off finals, in a penalty shoot-out.

With a concrete wall and metal steps, the commentary position is difficult to climb into. "Every Saturday the fans are waiting for me to fall flat on my face," said Roy.

His favourite commentating moment was at an away game at Tranmere Rovers. When a thick fog descended all the other reporters went home, but Roy soldiered on for the full 90 minutes.

"I had to send someone down to the pitch to see who had scored a goal," he explained.
