S***k

By Simon Rickman from Wellingborough.

. . . from the forest's edge I saw . . .
a goldy-locked maiden,
tree-tied tight,
well-scared,
yet uncowed and spit-up-yours;

I saw . . .
a green-tailed,
shard-scaled,
claw-nailed dragonne,
huff-pacing smoke-clad to pounce-point a-drool;

I saw . . .
Sir Jasper,
Knight Extra-ordinaire,
armour a-sparkle,
lance at attention,
straddled a-stride . . .

Javelin . . .
dappled,
be-ribboned,
bold favour be-decked,
seventeen hands of froth-snorting horse power;

I saw . . .
the goldy-locked maid tossing curls crying "Help me!"

I saw . . .
Sir Jasper and Javelin heads-down and fearless,
full-tilt and fraywards;

I saw . . .
the dragonne's dark belly up-rearing to down-strike,
his first flamefull breath scorching grasses betwixt;

I saw . . .
Sir Jasper's lance in-sinking deep to the dragonne who acquiesced quick,
quelled,
quite vanquished,
a-quiver;

I saw . . .
Sir Jasper dismount,
loosing fair-won maid's wrist-bonds;

I saw . . .
the spirited wench leaping up onto Javelin to kick him a-gallop,
away,
and alone.

I saw it all - and I grinned.
