GOD BLESS US—EVERYONE
by John McMenamin
Ìý
I was kneeling by my bed last night
Staring at the sky
First I prayed for wee Sean Coyle
That God would heal is eye.
Ìý
Then I prayed for Jordie
Who lost his friend, wee Jack
He’s gone to the ferret heaven
And he ain’t coming back.
Ìý
Then I prayed for Michael
I know he’d pray for me
Don’t let him get excited
And run into a tree.
Ìý
I prayed then for James Morton
Out there on his rounds
God keep away the muggers
Don’t let them steal his pounds.
Ìý
Then I prayed for Gerry
I hope he will atone
Keep his eyes off other women
Leave Mike Nesbitts wife-alone.
Ìý
I know she is good looking
And I feel the same way too
But Gerry, you have got a wife
Even God won’t give you two.
Ìý
Then there was a blinding flash
And God appeared to me
You’ve asked me for five things said he
I can only grant you three.
Ìý
But we came to an arrangement
I had to take two back
So Sean, you only need one eye
And James—Please watch your back.
