Helena Blackman

In ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ One's 'How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria?' Helena Blackman was like a cat who used up most of her nine lives! When she visited York, starring in 'South Pacific' she told Adam Tomlinson all about her ordeal!

Helena Blackman was saved by Andrew Lloyd Webber in the sing-off more times than she cares to remember!

But, he must have seen some star quality there, as Helena made it through to the final, but lost out in the end to Connie Fisher, who went on to play Maria in the Sound of Music.

That wasn't the end for the classically trained singer and actress from Southampton though. She landed the plum part of Nelly Forbush in a touring production of the Rodgers and Hammerstein classic 'South Pacific' where she gets the chance to 'wash that man right out of her hair' on a regular basis.

When the production rolled into York Helena, along with her co-star Dave Willetts, popped into ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radio York to have a chat with Adam Tomlinson.
