From Friday 5 February, ѿý World News presents Weekend World, a brand new weekend review programme, as part of the channel’s schedule refresh, which commenced this week.
Presented by award-winning ѿý broadcaster Paddy O'Connell, Weekend World is a sometimes irreverent and always lively look at viewers' comments on ѿý World News programmes and world issues in general. With his trademark wit, Paddy presents the audience with an exclusive snapshot of programmes being shown over the coming weekend on ѿý World News.
This weekend’s debut programme will feature two special guests. Reporter Chris Rogers will be talking about his special undercover investigation into Romania’s state institutions for Our World: Ceausescu's Children. Diplomatic Correspondent James Robbins will be interviewed from the edit suite as he cuts Our World: Mandela - 20 years of Freedom. Twenty years after the release of Nelson Mandela, James travels to South Africa and talks to FW de Klerk; the President who freed Mandela after 27 years of incarceration, and Archbishop Desmond Tutu.
Paddy O'Connell regularly presents on ѿý Radio 4. For six years he was the ѿý Wall Street correspondent, and anchored 9/11 coverage from New York in September 2001. He returns to ѿý World News where he previously presented World Business Report.
Paul Gibbs, Head of Programming, ѿý World News, says: “Delivering a brand new weekend show to the channel schedule is very exciting. Weekend World is brilliantly fronted by Paddy, who uses his charisma and wit to guide the audience through the weekend. The programme will feature exclusive interviews and behind-the-scenes footage, giving viewers of ѿý World News a real insight into our programming. The weekend starts here.”
