ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ World, the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½'s 24-hour international news and information television channel, has been nominated in the News category for Best News Channel in the fifth HOT BIRDtm TV AWARDS 2002. The awards are the industry 'Oscars' for the best television channels delivered to homes in Europe, Africa and the Middle East.

Promoted by Eutelsat and by the Eurovisioni festival, sponsored by Eutelsat, Arianespace and Alenia Spazio, the awards comprise nine categories including information, documentary and culture. An international jury, composed of television critics and journalists from the specialist press, will analyse and vote on the best programme offerings from more than 150 digital and analogue television channels transmitted via Eutelsat, the pan-European satellite operator.

Steve Williams, Senior Editor for ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ World News, will be attending on behalf of the channel. Steve said: "ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ World is delighted to have been nominated for this award. It is a real achievement in such a crowded market place and a reflection of the quality of our 24 hour news coverage."

The awards ceremony will take place in Venice on October 4th.
