The Fame Academy hits the road - ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Worldwide announces UK concert tour

As the tension builds towards the climax in the final week of ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ ONEÂ’s popular reality entertainment series, the The Fame Academy, it is announced today that fans will be able to follow the progress of the UKÂ’s best-known students when they are reunited to perform together in a series of live concerts which will hit the road on a nationwide tour from April 2003.

ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Worldwide, in association with Marshall Arts, has already confirmed three shows at the SECC in Glasgow (Friday 4 April), the Odyssey Arena in Belfast (Saturday 5 April) and Wembley Arena in London (Tuesday 15 April) - and a further nine dates in venues across the UK are expected to be announced during the next week.

The television programme, which last night saw ratings peak at 6.6 million, beating ITVÂ’s ‘YouÂ’ve been FramedÂ’ for the first time, also attracted a record 2 million calls to ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Audiocall to vote for their favourite student. With the series now building up to the announcement of the overall winner next Friday 13 April, ratings continue to be particularly strong amongst younger audiences in the North of England, Scotland and Northern Ireland where, consequently, tickets for the tour are expected to be in huge demand.

The tour will include the original 12 students from the programme, who instead of facing the pressure of the weekly ‘sing for survival’ challenges, will all be offered the chance to demonstrate what they have learned in the Academy by performing live in front of an audience of thousands.

Students will perform original material they have written, including the tracks ‘Lullaby’, written by Ainslie and Lemar, and ‘Back to You’ written by the students and international superstar Lionel Ritchie, both of which have been performed on the TV show.

These self-penned tracks and best-loved performances can also be heard on the album ‘Fame Academy’, which is released by Mercury Record on 9 December.

Tickets for the London and Glasgow go on sale on Saturday 7 December at 10.00 am and for the Belfast show on Sunday 8 December at 1.00 pm. A 24 hour national hotline has been set up for booking tickets – 0870 120 2225 – with tickets also available from venue box offices.
