ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ 2002 launches search for Performer/Artist in Residence

ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ 2002, the new ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ radio station dedicated to the Commonwealth Games, launches its search for a Performer/Artist in Residence as it goes on air for the first time on Monday 4 March on 97.7FM across Greater Manchester and around the world on .

Through this initiative, part funded by North West Arts Board, the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ is inviting musicians, writers, poets and artists working in digital media from around the North West to send in their ideas for the residency.

The judges particularly want to hear from performers/artists with a close knowledge of the Commonwealth heritage within the North West and who can reflect the way the preparations for the 2002 Commonwealth Games are affecting local communities.

Tim Pemberton, Editor of ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ 2002 says: “ItÂ’s all part of the exciting build up to the 2002 Commonwealth Games. We want to explore connections with Commonwealth countries and local communities as Manchester prepares to play host to the biggest multi-cultural event the UK has ever seen.”

Howard Rifkin, North West Arts BoardÂ’s Director of Visual & Media Arts says: “This is a wonderful chance for someone to work within and alongside ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ 2002 during this unique event – we are looking forward to a really exciting programme of work being created through this residency.”

The successful performer/artist will appear regularly on ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ 2002 from mid April for the duration of the radio stationÂ’s licence, producing work that can be interpreted digitally for the internet and for possible television broadcast.

Proposal forms are available from the reception of ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Manchester where ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ 2002 is broadcasting live from a specially designed “bubble” in the foyer. The form may also be downloaded from ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ 2002Â’s own website at or by calling Jane Hodson at ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Manchester on 0161 244 3463.
