Blunkett
Hints At PM Job
The
ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Secretary David Blunkett has given the strongest indication
yet that he is not interested in becoming BritainÂ’s first blind
Prime Minister.
In
an exclusive interview with ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radio SheffieldÂ’s Rony Robinson
during the radio stationÂ’s special series of features about
visual impairment, Mr. Blunkett says he is unsure about how the
public would respond to a blind person in Number 10.
"ItÂ’s
very difficult to ask the country to take the risk of a blind person
becoming Prime Minister. I know what the PM does and how hard he
works, and it makes me draw back from considering it. I mean you
can't just do it for a year - you either do it full on or not at
all," says the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Secretary.
However,
when pressed by Rony Robinson on whether he could go the extra mile
and make Downing Street, Mr. Blunkett said: "Never say never."
The
interview is to be broadcast on ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radio Sheffield today at 11.50am
as part of ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ Radio SheffieldÂ’s Eye to Eye week.
